The Board has responsibility for the corporate governance of The College of Law, and for the objects of the company as detailed in the Constitution. Accordingly, the Board has ultimate responsibility for the conduct of courses.
Pursuant to the Articles of Association, the Board can delegate any of its duties. The Board has delegated oversight of curriculum and the making of academic policy to The College of Law Academic Board (COLAB), but retains ultimate authority under the Articles and Memorandum of Association to make academic decisions. Since the inception of the COLAB, the Board has seen fit to limit its academic decision making to:
- appointing members of the COLAB
- determining whether to go ahead with the development of new courses
- agreeing upon changes to the academic committee structure, and
- otherwise endorsing the policy recommendations of the COLAB
