National Pro Bono Resource Centre, The College of Law
The National Pro Bono Resource Centre, together with The College of Law and LexisNexis, have joined forces to publish a new guide for Practical Legal Training (PLT) for Australian students.
Recognising the importance of pro bono work in the legal profession, The College of Law approached the National Pro Bono Resource Centre with a proposal to draft a paper on pro bono which could be made available to its PLT students. The College is pleased to see the proposal come to fruition and have a guide that is published for the benefit of law students throughout Australia.
Written by the National Pro Bono Resource Centre, the guide is published online by LexisNexis, a leading provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, as part of The College of Law’s practice paper collections in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. The guide is provided to all students who completed their PLT with The College of Law.
John Corker, Director of the National Pro Bono Resource Centre said the Centre welcomed the initiative from the College of Law and was pleased to be able to provide such an important resource to practical legal training students.
“It’s important to foster a pro bono ethos and a sense of professional responsibility in our future lawyers,” Corker said.
Neville Carter, Group Managing Director and Principal of The College of Law, said that The College was delighted to be involved with the initiative.
”Allowing all members of our community access to legal assistance is an integral part of ensuring that justice is within reach of those who may be without the financial means to secure legal representation,”
“Pro bono services have long been valued in Australia, and we are very excited to be a part of such a great initiative,” Mr Carter added.
LexisNexis are also suppling copies of the Practical Legal Training guide for distribution to law students in law schools and other practical legal training providers.
