The College of Law Queensland opens doors to new premises

The College of Law Queensland celebrated its recent move to its first dedicated training premises, Wesley House, with a formal opening on Monday 10th May where guests enjoyed an address from The Hon Paul de Jersey AC, Chief Justice of Queensland

In his address, the Chief Justice praised The College of Law for its work in Queensland over the past seven years, acknowledging The College as a leading provider of Practical Legal Training in Queensland.

According to His Honour  “The offerings extend beyond qualifying novice practitioners for admission and practising certificates. It also concerns continuing professional development, through graduate diploma programs, both in particular areas of law – commercial law and family law for example, under the Master of Applied Law program, and in relation to legal practice, through the Graduate Diploma of In-House Legal Practice Program.”

He also noted the relevance of the history of Wesley House suggesting that John Wesley, after whom the building was named, would appreciate the current pro bono thrust in the profession.

“He was not interested in material success, but social justice…Wesley I suspect would have applauded aspects of contemporary legal practice,” the Chief Justice commented.

College of Law Queensland Director Ann-Maree David said she was delighted with the relocation.

“Until now, The College of Law Queensland has rented training space as and when it was required,” she explained.

“However, as a leading provider of Practical Legal Training in Queensland, we are thrilled to be in this fantastic new space as it will allow us to further enhance our program offerings and more effectively meet the needs of our students,” Ms David said. The building is one of few to be awarded a 5-Star Green Star rating for ‘Australian Excellence’ by the Green Building Council of Australia

The College of Law Queensland was previously located at Law Society House.
