CLP17 Major Project
What is this subject about?
This subject provides the opportunity to undertake research in an area of commercial litigation and to present the findings in the form of an article of publishable quality.
The subject aims to provide students with the opportunity to complete a research assignment which includes a significant writing component. The assignment will require evidence of research, analysis and writing on a particular area of substantive or procedural law, including an ability to analyse applicable legislation, administrative regulation, common law, or other sources of law.
What will I learn while studying this subject?
At the end of this subject you will be able to:
- conduct research in a selected area of commercial litigation practice
- develop a conceptual framework for consideration of key issues in that area
- construct an appropriate piece of work which describes, contextualises and analyses those issues and proposes strategies in regard to them
- write logically, accurately and cogently to persuade a legal audience of a viewpoint in a selected area of commercial litigation
The project requires the conduct of research and analysis of a particular area of substantive or procedural commercial litigation. There will be an introductory session on research methodologies. Participants will then work under the supervision of a lecturer and a mentor who is a specialist in the area of law covered by the project.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment in this subject will be based on:
- satisfactory participation in the program
- written project report in the order of 7,000 – 9,000 words (100%)
