FLP3 Conducting Family Law Matters
What is this subject about?
This subject covers the conduct of successful first conferences and assessing the advantages and disadvantages of a range of dispute resolution methods. It also covers the assessment of whether to commence proceedings and identifying whether to seek interim orders as well as final orders.
The subject aims to provide a problem-solving approach to the procedural aspects of the conduct of various types of family law matters, with particular emphasis on court and non-court processes.
What will I learn while studying this subject?
At the end of this subject you will be able to:
- identify the appropriate forum for a matter
- conduct an effective first conference
- know when to initiate proceedings and when to use dispute resolution methods
- draft interim, interlocutory and final orders, affidavits and notices
- identify poorly drafted orders
- develop a case strategy for a final hearing
- identify and resolve ethical and professional practice issues which arise in the conduct of family law matters

How will I be assessed?
This subject has the following assessments:
- conduct a first conference (20%)
- draft interim parenting orders (20%)
- draft final property and parenting orders (60%)
If you enrol in this as a single subject on a non-award basis then you do not have to complete the assessment.
