Re-Qualifying as an English Solicitor – the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme
In the modern world of law, being qualified in multiple jurisdictions greatly increases the marketability of individual lawyers and the capability of their firms.
The Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS) – the new scheme that replaced the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) on 1 September 2010 is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). It enables international lawyers from a wide variety of jurisdictions to qualify to practise as solicitors in England and Wales.
Broadly, the new QLTS replaces the combined requirements of post admission practice experience (own jurisdiction plus England and Wales) and the exam (QLTT) with a new three-stage assessment regime, without the requirement of post admission experience.
Assessments under the new QLTS started in 2011. Current information from the Solicitors Regulation Authority can be found here
The College of Law Allliance is not currently offering assessments or tuition for the QLTS. See here for more detail.
