Trainee Admission Course - Queensland

There are two paths to admission in Queensland:

  • a Practical Legal Training Program, or
  • a 12 month supervised Traineeship (which replaced the articled clerkship scheme)

The College recommends Practical Legal Training as the method of training for admission. We do however understand the desire of some firms and law graduates to undertake a Traineeship for admission and therefore offer this training course as an alternative.

Approved Programmed Training

The Queensland Trainee Admission Course allows you to undertake the mandatory Ethics (Professional Responsibility) component in conjunction with your choice of optional subjects to accumulate a total of at least 90 hours of training.

Supplementary Training

Through the development of a Traineeship plan, your employer and you will identify those skills, practice areas and values which will not be able to be satisfied through the supervised training in the workplace. The Trainee Admission Course assists you by providing Supplementary Training to meet those needs as required. Supplementary Training can also be counted as part of the 90 hours of Approved Programmed Training.

Methods of Instruction

Teaching methods for the Trainee Admission Course vary according to the subject and include:

  • online learning
  • face-to-face instruction
  • mentoring and individual tuition
