The College of Law New Zealand is saddened to announce that longstanding Chair Ian Haynes ONZM passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday 27th April.

Ian gave service to the College over 19 years as Chair of the College of Law New Zealand.

Ian made a significant contribution to the New Zealand legal profession. He held many senior positions including President of the New Zealand Law Society, Vice President of Law Asia, President of the Auckland District Law Society, and the Judicial Conduct Commissioner.

He had an almost unparalleled knowledge of property law and devoted much of his time back to the profession. This was appropriately recognised when he was awarded his ONZM.

Ian was Chair since the incorporation of the College in New Zealand and was critical to the College’s success.

Ian’s support and guidance will be missed by all.
