Congratulations to the 2023 recipient - Sheldon Rogers.
Scholarship:
As an ongoing acknowledgement of the significant contribution Ian Haynes made to the College and the wider legal profession, we have initiated the launch of an annual scholarship to assist aspiring property lawyers in the commencement of their law degrees.
Structure:
• Annual scholarship of $3,000 (limited to 4 consecutive years and $12,000)
• Scholarship can be used as a contribution to course fees and board (when not living in your home city)
Eligibility Criteria:
• Open to Year 2 Law Students (Year 1 at time of application)
• Need to demonstrate academic ability
• Ability to demonstrate interest in law and property
• Ability to demonstrate need for scholarship
• Provide two referees
Application Process:
All applicants will need to complete a written submission, submitted to the CEO of the College of Law New Zealand outlining, in no more than 1,500 words:
• Why you are interested in Property Law
• Why you believe you are a good law student
• Why you require a scholarship
• Why you believe that you will make a good lawyer
Two referees will be required for independent verification for the candidate as will academic transcripts throughout the duration of the scholarship.
Applications close 30 October 2023. Interviews will then take place, with the confirmation of the successful applicant occurring in December 2023.

Ian Haynes
Ian had an impressive 60-year career in property law, holding key positions such as a Judicial Conduct Commissioner and President of the Auckland District Law Society. Ian also chaired the College of Law and the Spencer Mason Trust. His exceptional service earned him a Fellowship (FCL) and an honorary Master of Laws degree (Hon LLM) from the College of Law, as well as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) appointment from the Government. The College of Law New Zealand initiated the Ian Haynes Memorial Property Law Scholarship in recognition of him as an outstanding figure in the profession.
