This short course offers an overview of the steps involved in raising and resolving personal grievances in New Zealand, focusing on processes under the Employment Relations Act 2000.

By the end of the two-hour course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the jurisdictional pathways for employment claims, including the roles of Mediation Services, the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, and Human Rights Commission.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the process for raising and responding to a personal grievance, including timeframes, documents, and considerations for resolution, including settlement discussions.
  • Analyse the mediation process, preparation, and clauses to consider in settlement agreements.
  • Understand the investigatory role of the Employment Relations Authority in resolving employment relationship problems.
